Tom took his first Iyengar yoga class in 1983 in studio two at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in San Francisco. From the first he knew it was a practice he found fulfilling. He studied a few years in San Francisco and then attended the 1991 Iyengar Yoga Convention in San Diego and was around BKS Iyengar during a long weekend and it left an indelible mark on his soul. That next year the Institute began a weekend and nighttime teacher's training program. Tom enrolled and it took him a few years to complete the program and in 1995 became a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher. After that it was just continual learning from my teachers, visiting teachers and 4 trips to India to study directly with the Iyengar's and the teachers at RIMYI. Tom was especially influenced by Geeta Iyengar. In 2013 Tom opened the Yoga Center of Chico with Rex Stromness and it has been a wonderful studio to teach out of and a place where yoga has thrived in Chico.

Recently Tom has been studying online with Prashant Iyengar and his deep understanding of yoga has highly influenced Tom's deeper dive into the yoga tradition.
